Easter (a little late)

This year Blaine had an extra day off so we decided to dye eggs with the kids for the first time. Before we even started dying the eggs Blaine sipped on the blue vinegar dye. Not to worry, it's non-toxic. Genius!

The scientist.

If you look closely you can see the stained blue lips.
Baskets.
Shelby was really, REALLY upset the Easter Bunny didn't leave anything for daddy. So she went and took stuff to him while he was sleeping. This girl has a heart of GOLD!

I have no clue why they had to hold their stuffed animals and have no idea why they can't seem to find the camera and look at it when I'm taking a picture.:)

An attempt at a family shot before church.

Egg hunting and dinner at my mom and dad's house.

This year I made sure to talk to the kids about why we really celebrate Easter. Shelby caught on really quickly and loved looking and asking questions about the pictures I showed her. By the end of the day she was able to tell most of the story all on her own (with the prompt of some questions of course). None the less, it made me happy that she remembered what I had taught her.

Funnies

It was a very eventful night last night. Both kids somehow ended up in bed with us and Shelby woke up wanting water. So I gave her a small glass and let her keep it on the side of the bed she was on. Well I went back to sleep and at 4(about 2 1/2 hours later) in the morning I wake up to her standing on the side of my bed with her pajamas off. She continued to ask me where her polka dot jammies were because she needed to change into them. I just kept asking her what are you doing out of bed, why did you take your pajamas off, and so on. Anyway she told me her jammies were wet and she had to get new ones. Of course by this time I was out of bed and checking the other side of the bed thinking she had peed the bed(which would really surprise me because in the a little over a year she's been trained she has NEVER wet the bed, why would she start now? I know there are accidents but whenever she has to go she always just wakes up to go no matter what time it is). Well sure enough there was a huge wet spot and so I started removing the sheets. By this time I decided I needed to go to the bathroom before I continued. Here's the following conversation we had:

Shelby's sitting in there with me talking about this and that...I wasn't really paying attention.

Me: Shelby, what I want to know is why you peed the bed?

Shelby: I didn't. I didn't pee the bed Mom.

Me: Well Shelby there is a huge wet spot on the bed. Why did you pee?

Shelby: Mom. I don't pee the bed. I pee in the potty. I pee in that potty(pointing to the toilet that I was so conveniently on.) **note: By this time she is looking at me like I am a total idiot for even thinking she wet the bed.

Me: Ok. Well if it is not pee then what is it. Just tell me the truth.

Shelby: (very dramatically) Mom I can't tell you. I can't. You'll be mad at me. I can't tell you the truth.

Me: Shelby I'm not going to be mad just tell me what is in the bed. (by this time I'm holding back laughter)

Shelby: Water.

Me: Well I would rather it be water than pee. So you are sure you didn't mess the bed?

Shelby: Well it's a little bit of mess.

Me: Shelby did you pee in the bed or not?

Shelby: No, mom, I didn't pee the bed. It's water.

So by this time I believe her. If she had peed she would've been sleeping and it would have startled her...resulting in crying and waking me up. I was laughing so hard this morning. This girl comes up with some funny stuff (Yesterday I had her help clean up and after 5 minutes she told me her brain was telling her to watch TV. What?). Anyway, if she thinks I'm going to be mad at her for water, then I must really be a mean mom. Ha! Definitely a story I want to remember.

Shelby and all her glory at 4 this morning....with her polka dot jammies she found.

Sea World

I'm finally blogging about our wonderful trip to California! It has been awhile since we have actually had a family vacation and it was so nice to have a few days to spend with one another. We stayed in the La Jolla Village area right across from the beach. It is so beautiful there! My parents came along and we all stayed in their time share. This was our family vacation growing up (we've been going since I was 1) and it was nice to do the same with my kids. We had fun enjoying the weather, beach, walking, shopping, eating, going to an awesome Farmer's Market, and Sea World!! There was a lot to cram into only 3 1/2 days but it was worth it. The kids were so exhausted they came home and crashed every night. This was good because the grumpy old guy downstairs wasn't a good combo with my two active toddlers running everywhere upstairs... not to mention there is only supposed to be 4 to a unit and we had 6.
This is where we stayed. It is a small, older complex but absolutely beautiful! All the units are time shares that owner's use by the week.

Walking to an area with more sand.

The attempted "feet in the sand" shot.

The kids playing in the sand after a wave took them and my mom out and literally soaked them. The tide was still really high....Blaine didn't like the water too much after that.

The kids fed their dad during his nap!

This picture cracks me up. We were walking to town to get some lunch and I tried to snap a picture of Blaine walking up the hill because it was cracking me up. Well the minute I pulled the camera out he turned around and started walking backwards up the hill. It was too funny!

We ate these delicious cookies after lunch in the park. There is a deli in town and they have always had these yummy sugar cookies with a lemon glazed frosting. Mmmmm...they always look pretty too!

Watching the kids follow the birds was hilarious.

More bird following.

An attempted family shot. The kids can't figure out how to look at the camera.:)

Seal watching. My parents said when we were little we used to play at this beach and then the seals just kind of took over one day. I know awhile ago there was some controversy as to whether or not the city was going to let them stay there or move them out. I like them there...they're fun to go and watch for a minute!

Walking the coast. The kids loved riding on Blaine's shoulders this trip.

The beautiful La Jolla coastline.

Yeah!! Sea World!

My mom and I were the ones to brave the tea cups with the kids at Elmo's Bay of Play.

This was just a pet show with dogs and cats. It was really cute and the kids loved it.

The penguins. So cute! We saw two of them that were standing with their bellies touching for the longest time. It was like they were cuddling. I love penguins and I also love that you can see my flash through the glass.

He was really in awe of the sharks.

This was before the dolphin show. My camera died so there are no pictures of the show.:(

Blaine and I on the Skyride. It was nice having Grandma and Grandpa there because we got to go off together and do things that the kids wouldn't enjoy so much...and we even got a date night.:)

The Shamu Show.

This was the best and by far the kid's favorite! I think it is amazing how these animals are trained.

We took the kids on another ride at the Bay of Play. It was fun to go on the little kid rides and the kids loved them!

My parents with the kids(and some other random child) on a train ride at an outdoor mall in La Jolla near the temple. I love all the shopping there because it is mostly all outdoors and the weather is always so nice!

He slept most of the way home. It was an exhausting trip but they didn't want to come home. Who could blame them?

Shelby with her sunburn and her souvenir Barbie from Sea World!

Catching Up

It seems as if I have had a case of severe laziness as it has been almost a month since my last post...or we're just really boring. Here's some pictures of what we've been up to...

Puppies!! Blaine's parents were in town and they brought their cute baby bulldogs. Their big bull dog Bella just had 7 puppies. We got to see 4 of them before they were all sold. Here are Roxy and Petey playing. Seriously these puppies are adorable!

Playtime with cousins. My sister-in-law just had a new park open up in her neighborhood and it has been nice to let the kids go play there. They have so much fun!

My sleeping baby. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and I give him a tiny bit of milk. He followed me into the kitchen this night and fell right back asleep on the kitchen floor. He's hilarious!

Ride Makerz. This is out at Westgate. My nephew had his birthday party there and Blaine got to make a car. Both Blaine's were in heaven!

Video games with dad.

Hired Help. I randomly caught Shelby diligently scrubbing my kitchen floor one afternoon. Nice!

Valentine's cookies!! The kids loved decorating yummy homeade Valentine's cookies. Maybe this is when I started gaining some of my weight back.;)

Up next: Sea World

We're so excited!!

Baby Blackmail

I'm kind of, sort of in the process of potty training Blaine right now. This meaning that he is partially ready and it is on the back of my mind but I am not ready to actually do it. I guess my laziness is kicking in. He has a habit of telling me he is pooping so I run him to the toilet but he doesn't do anything. Well I've recently discovered that when he tells me this he is actually peeing. So today I decided to try him in underwear and this is what I found...I was laughing SO hard. He was stomping on the potty with his sister's boots on screaming, "Steppin' potty, steppin' potty!" This is definitely blackmail for him when he gets older;)

So I'm looking for advice from anyone who has potty trained boys before...what works with them? He'll pee on the potty when HE wants to so he definitely knows what to do. Sometimes I'll find him sitting on the potty with his diaper off but this is always before his bath. He won't go on there any other time.

Doctor, Doctor

The kids and I have all been sick this past week...UCK! Actually we have all been sick on and off for the month and a half. You better believe I cleaned triple duty this weekend, busting out the Lysol, bleach, and opening all the doors and windows in the house! A couple of nights ago the baby cried practically the whole night and Blaine and I would find him next to the fridge wanting milk but I didn't notice any ear tugging, his fever was gone, and he was super tired. So I attributed his horrible night to just being sick in general and being overly tired and decided to wait it out and see if the next night was better. Well yesterday I layed him down for his nap and when I heard him screaming a half hour into it I knew something was wrong. I went to check on him and he was practically punching his left ear. I thought to myself he's definitely got an ear infection and was able to get him into the doctor that afternoon. I took him in and the whole time we're in there he is crying, "I want to go hooome. I want take a nap. Mommy....purse. I want to go hooome nooow." It was pretty traumatizing for him apparently. So this marks another set of firsts for Blaine...his first ear infection. He hates the medicine and spits most of it out, but rest assured he is feeling much better today and is back to his active self protesting his naps! I must admit I enjoyed the cuddles, random hugs, random kisses, and early naps and bedtimes. HOWEVER, it is much better to just have a healthy child!

Yes, I was "that mom" and busted out the camera while my sick son was throwing a fit in the doctor's office:)
